Nelly Santos Leite

Composition by the National Conservatory in Lisbon. Among her piano masters are the renowned Helena Sá e Costa, Campos Coelho, Filipe Pires, Croner de Vasconcellos. She also studied in Rome under the guidance of Tito Aprea and in Carlos Cebro´s master classes in Portugal and in France.

She was awarded the first prize of the National Conservatory in Lisbon, the Honour and Merit award and the Gold Medal in Silva Monteiro´s course in Porto as well as other prizes in several competitions.

She has performed solo, duo, sextet and with orchestra concerts, also in Portuguese Radio and Television Broadcast. As a soloist she gave piano recitals in Weinheim, Edinburgh and throughout her own country. She has edited solo piano and duo with guitar recordings on CD (Numerica), including compositions of her own.

She has also published, together with another pianist Graça Mota, two school books for state teaching of Music Education- “The sounds of the world” and “The world of sounds”.

Since 1966 she has been a teacher of Music Education, Composition and Piano in state and art schools.

In 2003 and 2004 she joined the jury of the International Piano Competition in Brest, France, as well as of the International Music Competition in Porto- 2010. She was also a member of the 1rst, 13th, 14th and 15th Saint Cecilia´s International Piano Competition, in Porto.

Since 1985 she has been the director of the Academy of Music in S. João da Madeira and the artistic tutor of Florinda Santos Piano biennial Competition, sponsored by the same Academy, always being a member of its jury.
